Review: Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater

RavenBoys3_2_jkt Blue Lily, Lily Blue- Maggie Stiefvater

The blurb:

There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up.

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs.

The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost.

Friends can betray.
Mothers can disappear.
Visions can mislead.
Certainties can unravel.

I had been waiting for this book for what felt like a lifetime, it was actually a little over a year but when you’re completely invested in a story that feels like a lifetime. This is probably a review for those who have already read the first  two books as this is the third book in The Raven Cycle series, I will try not to spoil too much if you haven’t read the first two books but I’m sorry…there are just some things I have to get off my chest.

Initially I felt that this book was a little slow to start in the beginning but that could have just been me finding my groove back into this world after the long break..  I have come to realize that one of the things I love about this series is that although it has love stories in it, they do not take precedence over the main story line. This book first and foremost is about Glendower and their quest to find him; this is so very refreshing to find in a Young Adult novel nowadays. Even after 3 books the mystery of Glendower is still there, it doesn’t feel old or boring; if anything, it is more intriguing now that they have discovered Cabeswater and figured out that Ronan is a Greywaren. In this book it picks up from when Maura disappeared, Adam is taking lessons from Persephone on how to access Cabeswater/scrying so that he can help locate her and also so he can know what it is that Cabeswater needs from him now that he promised to be its eyes. Ronan is disappearing to do mysterious and dangerous things involving his dreams on a desperate quest to find a way to keep his creations alive even if he were to die. Strange things are happening to Noah that has him acting unusual and quite evil. Gansey is busy being perfect trying to discover a cave system that leads to Cabeswater where Glendower may be resting. Of course, Blue is right there with him since she is trying to find a way to her mother since her only clue is that she is underground. We also get to meet the guy who sent The Gray man after the Greywaren,  there are a lot of new discoveries and plot twists that this book brings, just when you think they are getting closer to waking Glendower.

Although I like my books to have a story line that can stand on it’s own, I am a complete sucker for a good love story. Maggie definitely delivers on this point; the late night forbidden phone calls between Gansey and Blue, The sneaky hand holding in the car, the lingering glances…heartbreaking and yet, they make your heart pound because you want nothing more than for this to work out for them. Why can’t it just be simple?! One day they can kiss, right? RIGHT?

One love story which captivated me completely, Ronan’s unrequited love for Adam. Gah! my heart could not and still cannot contain my love for these characters. You have Adam who feels he is undeserving of love and then you have Ronan who loves Adam so much and thinks he is so amazing. One of my favorite quotes in the book was when Adam noticed (and he keeps noticing) Ronan watching him.

“Adam felt Ronan’s eyes glance off him and away, his disinterest practiced, but incomplete. See, Adam Parrish is wantable, worthy of a crush, not just by anyone, someone like Ronan, who could want Gansey or anyone else and chose Adam for his hungry eyes. “

These two had me reading way too many fics after the book was over.
Maggie herself picked the best 6 words to describe this book,

This book had so much mystery, suspense, danger, sorrow, humor and love. All in all a great book, a great addition to the series, I will be on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book!

Hello everyone! Thank you for stopping by my blog amongst the millions out there in the blogging world. I’ve decided to create this blog because I wanted a place to share my reviews on books. I have read so many amazing books that I wanted to gush about and figured this would be the best way. I really wish I could go back and write a review for every book I have ever loved but I would be here forever and never get caught up to review the books I am currently reading. I don’t have a specific genre that I read, I read a little bit of everything (many thanks to my fabulous book club, Ladies of Folio) so this blog will be a bit sporadic. At some point I will go back and review series that I absolutely love and recommend to the world. Please bear with me as I’m new to blogging. If you have any book recommendations for me, please leave them in the comments and I would be more than happy to check them out. I hope you stay with me and enjoy!
